On June 28, 2026, officers from the Southern Armstrong Regional Police Department were dispatched to a residence in Gilpin Township for a report of an elderly female who had been stabbed. The victim was identified as 79-year-old Rosalind Cooper. The suspect, 37-year-old Mengqi Zhang, was located at her residence in Gilpin Township, where she barricaded herself inside and refused to cooperate with officers. A perimeter was established, and the Pennsylvania State Police took control of the investigation, with assistance from the Special Emergency Response Team. At approximately 1:20 AM on June 29, 2026, Zhang exited the residence and was taken into custody without further incident. She has been charged with Criminal Homicide and Aggravated Assault.
